Many local and foreign athletes as well as officials escape death when a section of the newly built Stephen Keshi Stadium collapsed.

The stadium, located in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State, is hosting the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championship where over 500 athletes across Africa are competing.

The incident happened on Thursday evening when the water tank collapsed on two vehicles, damaging them.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

The tank was mounted on iron stands, and meant to serve the swimming pool, which is still under construction, and some other parts of the stadium.

While athletes were competing, the tank crashed and destroyed parts of the stadium fence. The iron stands, on which the tank was mounted, tore the bonnet of a Sports Utility Vehicle while parts of the tank fell on the other car.

When Bounce News visited the scene, the area has been cordoned off by officials.

Bounce News also gathered that the damaged cars belong to top officials who are working at the Asaba 2018.
