Nigeria president Muhammadu Buhari is expected to grace the 21st Senior Africa Athletics Championship in Asaba, Delta State.

Buhari is expected to be in Asaba from Wednesday August 1, 2018, when athletics events will officially begin.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Solomon Ogba, told Bounce News at a press conference on Monday that they are in touch with the presidency and Buhari is expected in Asaba during the championship.

“We are keeping in touch with the presidency and president Buhari is being expected in Asaba for the athletics championship.”

South Africa are the defending champions of this biennial athletics championship and while they are hoping to complete a hat-trick of wins in Nigeria, they are braced for a tough battle with the likes of Kenya and of course, hosts Nigeria

Already, the city of Asaba is agog awaiting the arrival of Africa’s best athletes who will be competing not just for medals at the biennial championships but for places in the continent’s team to the Intercontinental Cup in Ostrava.

The event begins on August 1st and ends on Sunday, August 5th.
