Arsenal Keep Top-Four Hopes Alive With Big Win Over Stoke City
The Gunners are fighting hard for their 'traditional trophy'; a top-four finish.
Arsenal's hope for a top-four finish in the Premier League were boosted as they secured a 4-1 win over Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday to now narrow the point gap to just one point.
Goals from Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil appeared to have put the Gunners on their way to a comfortable victory in a fixture which has developed into a fierce rivalry in recent years, but Peter Crouch pulled one back in controversial fashion to put the pressure on Arsene Wenger's side.
However, an Alexis Sanchez strike restored the two-goal lead before Giroud capped off the scoring with his second of the evening to wrap up a crucial three-point for the visitors.
The Gunners were without a win in their previous six visits to Stoke heading into Saturday's game and that did send shivers down the spine of many Arsenal faithfuls.
While Arsenal continue their late resurgence, Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has now been relegated to a spectator as he as again snubbed for Saturday's game.
Since his substitute appearance early in April against Manchester City there have been no more action for the 21-year old forward.
