Another top military officer is missing in Ebonyi, and the Nigerian army have launched a search for him.

There was panic and pandemonium at Onunwakpu and Ogbodo villages in Igbeagu community in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State as fierce looking military men from Nkwegu Cantonment in four Hilux vans and Armored Personnel Carrier besieged the villages.

They destroyed over twenty stores and carted away their belongings worth millions of naira.

Commandant of Nkwagu Cantonment, Lt. Colonel S. O Sadiq, attributed the attack to a missing soldier, whom they were searching for.

He said the soldier (name withheld) was among those dispatched to maintain peace between Cross River State and Ebonyi State.

According to Sadiq, he got missing at Onunwakpu and Ogbodo villages in Igbeagu community in Izzi local government area.

“When the wife of my officer called that she had not seen her husband, I ordered my men to go and comb all the areas and bring him out either dead and alive.

“Both sides of the community have been attacking each other, but we introduced bike to help enroute all the crisis areas.

“I was briefed that he got missing at Onunwakpu axis. He was said to be shouting on top of his voice, but was whisked away”, Sadiq told Bounce News.

One of the victims, Mr. Anthony Umeh disclosed that he lost goods worth millions of naira.

According to him, during the raid, he lost nine gallons of diesel, thirty litres each, which were part of the oil he saved from his filling station, that was shut down at the peak of the crisis.

“They broke into my store in my compound and damaged all the drugs in the store.

“When one of the sales girls tried to explain to them, they gave her resounding slaps, forcing her to keep quiet.

“They moved from one store to the other, destroying everything they see, while they drank juice in cans.

“Our problem is that we do not know why those soldiers are after us. This is a community that has agreed to ceasefire after over two months of communal crisis. So, seeing soldiers in such action, instilled fear in us,” he said.

It is not the first time top military personnel will be missing in Nigeria.

There has been a search for former Chief of Administration, Army, Major General Idris Alkali in Jos.

Indications emerged on Wednesday night that the missing former Chief of Administration, Army, Major General Idris Alkali may still be alive as the task force set up by the Army headquarters has emptied the Jos Du Pond where he was earlier suspected to be dumped but found no trace of the officer.
