Do we need 'The Wedding Party 3'?

This is a question that would likely be on the mind of Nollywood pundits, especially given the producers of the movie and their knack for replicating a winning formula.

The first part is already the highest grossing Nollywood movie for now with 453 million Naira, and the part 2 has already hit 100 million Naira in it's first week in the cinemas.

Very few successful movies go free without a sequel, even in Hollywood. So when "The Wedding Party: Destination Dubai" was produced and released a year later, it did not particularly come as a surprise.

In the first part, the relationship between Dunni (Adesua Etomi) and Dozie (Banky W) was explored, and the box office success of the original movie, combined with the 'possibilities' that existed between between Deadre (Daniella Down) and Nonso (Eyinnaya Nwigwe) led to a part 2.

Now the ELFIKE Film Collective which produced both blockbusters, could continue their winning wedding party formula with a part 3.

After all, traditional weddings in all its fullness have not been explored.

Apart from the possible millions a 'threequel' could rake in, the dynamics between Yemisi (Somkele Iyamah-Idhalama) and Sola (Ikechukwu) could drive the narrative.

In the sequel Yemisi is finally warming up to the ever playful Sola, continuing the trend of groomsman and bridesmaid finding love and friendship at a wedding, and leaving room for a possible plot exploration, and movie.

Whether the 'Wedding Party' producers will explore this remains to be seen. But given their history and the numbers 'Wedding Party 2' appears to be pulling in, we wouldn't be blown away in shock if we get another Wedding Party movie come December 2018.
