APC Stalwart Kidnapped In Bayelsa
Chief Robert Desmond, a stalwart of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Twon-Brass, the headquarters of Brass Local Government Council Area of Bayelsa State has been abducted by unknown gunmen.
Reports say the kidnap happened after a social event in Nembe area of the state.
It was gathered that many members of the APC suspect that the abduction may be politically motivated, adding that there could be a target on some of their chieftains ahead of the 2019 National and State Houses of Assembly polls in the area. Others claimed that the abduction might be from kidnappers only interested in ransom.
Bayelsa state police spokesman, Asimin Butswat confirmed the kidnap and said that "the police had begun investigation to discover and arrest Desmond's kidnappers".
An eyewitness, Mr. Mike Perekiye revealed to reporters that the victim, who was an APC Chieftain in the state, was abducted on Saturday February 24th, 2018 after an event in Nembe.
Meanwhile, Victor Isaiah, the Caretaker Chairman of Brass Local Council has condemned the act and described it as devilish. He urged security officials to do all within their power to rescue the victim unharmed, and also appealed to the public to help the police with useful information to hasten the release of Mr. Desmond.
