APC Senator Asks Party To Stop Blaming PDP For Woes
Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ecology and Climate Change.
He is currently serving his third term in the Senate but there will be no fourth term for him.
He recently stepped down for his governor, Ibrahim Geidam as APC’s candidate in the Yobe East senatorial district seat in the forthcoming poll.
He appears to be a loyal party man, but he seems not scared of criticizing his party if things are not right.
Speaking during his 70th birthday celebration and launch of his book 'Poorlitics' in Abuja, Senator Ibrahim criticized his party for blaming past administrations instead of fulfilling its campaign promises.
He also passed a vote of no confidence in the Buhari administration in the areas of fighting corruption and fixing the economy.
Why is he speaking up now? Is this because he has no re-election to secure? Could this be the confidence of a man who has nothing to lose?
"Without mincing words, as an elder statesman, I must say that my dreams and hopes have been dashed.
"We have certainly not done what I dreamed we will do, and in many ways, we are no better than the PDP that we sought to displace.
"As we move towards the elections, I have to give a dire warning to the APC. Things are no longer the way they were in 2015 when we rode to power on a cloud of euphoria believing that things will change.
"Simply put, things have not changed, and many things are worse, and the people are bitter. We should not assume that we can win even with massive rigging.
"There are just certain things that progressive parties do and must be seen to do. We must be seen to obey the rule of law.
"If the courts rule we must obey. We must respect the separation of powers and let the legislature make its independent decisions," he said.
The senator also warned that he could direct his people to vote against his own party in the 2019 election if they fail to do the right thing.
