The national caucus and the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold on February 26 and 27 respectively.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdulllahi, confirmed this development in an interview in Abuja on Thursday.

In response to a question on the preparations for the party’s much-awaited National Convention, the party spokesman said, “Our national caucus meeting will hold on the 26th and the National Executive Committee meeting will hold on the 27th of this month (February).”

He however did not give further details.

The party has been unable to hold the mandatory bi-annual non-elective convention since 2014, this is in violation of certain sections of its 2014 Constitution (as amended).

The constitution makes it mandatory for the party to hold a bi-annual national convention in order to review party affairs and make necessary adjustments where necessary.

Specifically, Article 25 (A)(i) of the APC Constitution stipulates that the National Convention of the party shall be held once in two years at a date, venue and time to be recommended by the National Working Committee and approved by the National Executive Committee subject to the giving of the statutory notices to the Independent National Electoral Commission and at least 14 days notice given to members eligible to attend

The convention usually provides an avenue for the party to ratify its policies and programmes; elect or remove the national officers of the party; elect the presidential candidate of the party; amend the constitution of the party from time to time as the need may arise among other issues.

Since the last convention of the party held in October 2014, the party has been unable to hold one after several failed attempts.
