APC Finally Receives Ali Modu Sheriff
The All Progressive Congress (APC) has finally received former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Ali Modu Sheriff into the party.
Sheriff officially joined the party a week after he announced his return to the party after he left nearly four year ago.
Sheriff was received by his political godson and once arch-rival, the state Governor Kashim Shettima, at a stakeholders meeting in Government House, Maiduguri, on Friday.
Sheriff defected with thousands of his supporters entered Government House at about 10:35 a.m. and proceeded straight to official residence of Governor Shettima, before commencement of the meeting that was attended by former and serving Senators, House of Representative members and other major stakeholders of the APC in the state.
Since Sheriff handed over the mantle of Leadership to Governor Shettima in 2011, he has not entered the government house.
'My Great Party'
He called all supporters of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state to unite and shun selfish interest in re-positioning the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
He said: "I rejoined my great party, APC following the misunderstanding we had in PDP when I was the National Chairman, but I have to come back home and rejoin the APC which is my party I helped to form in the past.
“I am joining APC as an ordinary member, and I want to call on all and sundry to support the leadership of governor Kashim Shettima and APC in the state”. Sheriff stated.
While addressing the stakeholders ahead of the State Congress slated to hold on Saturday,Governor Kashim Shettima enjoined all the delegates to elect credible leaders so as to move the ruling APC forward.
He insisted that as Governor, he will not interfere with the Congress, as he do not have any particular candidate at heart, but prayed for God to elect credible and selfless leaders.
While in the PDP, the opposition party had claimed that Senator Sheriff was planted by the APC to tear the party apart.
His return to the APC may have justified the PDP's claim.WATCH: Buhari has the right to contest again... Nigerians speak
