APC Faction Holds Parallel Congress In Kwara
All is not well in the ruling All Peoples Congress, APC in Kwara State as members of a faction within the party held a parallel local government congress across the 16 local government areas on Saturday, May 12th.
The faction said to be loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari hinged their grievances and actions on marginalisation and inaccessibility to nomination forms to vie for positions.
At Ilorin West, a former commissioner in the Kwara state Teaching Service Commission, Alhaji Saliu Alabi complained of discrimination in the running of the party in the state.
He said: “We want to elect officers for each local government in the state. Here we are conducting that of Ilorin West local government.
“We are a faction in APC and the reason is that some of us felt marginalised. We were denied access to purchase forms in the ward congress, so we have lobbied on our own to the national APC to get forms for some of our members.
“We have been marginalised because when they are electing delegates or zoning positions, we are not invited. Maybe some of them believe that we are not part of them. So they did not invite any of our members in their selections. We cannot just sit down and be watching. We have interest in this party. We believe that we are stakeholders in the party. This one we are doing is the original congress of APC in Ilorin West local government area.”
Also speaking, a factional spokesperson of the party in the state Kayode Oyin-Zubir said the faction’s local government congress is the most credible.
“We are very grateful for the Federal Government for what the state is enjoying. We are happy with President Muhammadu Buhari.
“All relevant agencies of the government are here represented today” he stated.
