The national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for 10am is yet to commence as at 1 pm due to downpour.

The rain has, however, not stop delegates from trooping in to Eagle Square, venue of the exercise.

A total of 6,800 delegates are expected to elect those who would pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years.

All roads around the square have been cordoned off by police officers, soldiers and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) are controlling traffic within the capital city.

Gov Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau and former governor of Sokoto,  Aliyu Wammako are among those currently at the venue.

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to arrive at the venue any moment from now.

A former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, is already guaranteed a chance to emerge as the next national chairman of the party after all contenders to the office stepped down for him.

However, other key offices such as those of the National Secretary, Deputy National Chairmen, National Publicity Secretary and others are to be keenly contested for by several APC members.
