They still have four more games to play this season but it counts for less for Victor Anichebe and his Sunderland teammates whose relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Saturday.

Going into Saturday’s game, Sunderland badly needed a win and hoping other results will go their way but they could not deliver on that; losing 1-0 at the Stadium of light against AFC Bournemouth.

It was Josh King that confirmed Sunderland’s relegation as he struck in the 88th minute thus extinguishing any ray of hope at the Stadium of Light.

It is yet to be seen if Anichebe will stick or be retained at Sunderland as the 28-year old Nigerian striker runs out of contract at the end of this current campaign.

Anichebe, despite playing all his club football in England, has never played in the Championships.

Before joining Sunderland, ‘The Beast’ as Anichebe is fondly called in some quarters had only played professionally for two other clubs, Everton where he spent a decade rising from the Youth team and then West Brom.
