Angry Family Give Police 3-Day Ultimatum To Find Breadwinner's Killers
While Mr Akeem Olanipekun was simply out to fend for his family, little did he know that untimely death was hovering around.
His passing was that kind of death capable of setting an entire community on fire and that seems to be the situation in Imo area of Ikare Akoko, Ondo State.
According to an eyewitness account, the 50-year old was allegedly beaten to death with juju by hoodlums over his failure to part with a token before he and his friend erected a party canopy on the land.
"The deceased actually accompanied his friend to erect a canopy at the area and while they were trying to do that, the area boys came and demanded for 'owo ile' before they could do anything.
"The deceased refused and this led to argument between him and the boys who went back home to bring the charm and beat him to death."
The incident has triggered outrage from family and friends resident within the community.
Samuel Akindele, one of the deceased friends claimed the police has just three days to fish out the hoodlums or be ready to handle reprisals.
"If the killers are not arrested within the next three days, we will mobilise our youths to torch down anything that can be remembered about them in this town." He threatened.
It was confirmed that those who could be identified with the alleged killers have fled the town for fear of being attacked or arrested in their absence.
The traditional ruler in the town, Oba Akadiri Momoh has however appealed for calm, saying that police should be allowed to do their job and bring the perpetrators to book.
The police area commander in Ikare Akoko, Razak Rauf who confirmed the incident, said his men are on the trail of the alleged killers and promised they will be arrested.
The deceased, a commercial driver was said to have been the sole bread winner of his family comprising two wives and several children.
His corpse has since been deposited at the state specialist hospital, Ikare Akoko.
