The moment the people of Anambra have been waiting for is finally here, the highly decisive 2017 gubernatorial elections.

Emotions have run high in the days leading up to the election as the candidates of the front-line parties - Willie Obiano (APGA), Oseloka Obaze (PDP), Dr Tony Nwoye (APC) and Osita Chidoka (UPP) have tried to rally supporters.

There have also been security concerns as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) consistently threatened to disrupt the elections, leading security agencies to announce that security will be heavily beefed up on election day.

Largely deserted streets

Our Bounce News correspondent currently travelling across the state reports that the police are conspicuously missing from checkpoints, leaving soldiers to do the heavy-lifting.

An almost one-hour drive saw the absence of police men on the roads and at checkpoints. Rather, soldiers appeared to be manning all the checkpoints.

Meanwhile, the streets appear peaceful so far as the people remain optimistic of a peaceful election.
