The Nigerian police have restored the security detail of the Anambra state governor Willie Obiano.

This follows a directive given by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Oye, confirmed the reinstatement.

Governor Obiano is APGA’s candidate for the November 18 governorship election in the state.

The governor’s aide-de-camp (ADC) was withdrawn on Tuesday by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.

Idris said the security aides were withdrawn based on previous experiences whereby military officials caught an ADC to “a governor” escorting a vehicle loaded with arms on election day.

The governor had, while welcoming the President on arrival Wednesday in Awka for the Grand Finale of the All Progressives Congress Governorship Rally, complained about the withdrawal of his security aides.

Before departing Awka, President Buhari directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), Joshak Habila to ensure the return of the governor’s security personnel.

Oye said President Buhari thought the IGP’s action undermined the office of the governor.

Oye said as the chief security officer of the state, Obiano’s security should not have been tampered with.

The APGA leader also alleged a plot to rig the election despite the assurance by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free and fair election.
