One of the aspirants under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State, Prof. Akolisa Nnanyelugo Ufodike, has withdrawn.

Ufodike said he decided to bow out in order to enable him work with other party faithful to ensure that the PDP wins the election.

He said the PDP as a united party stands a chance of defeating Governor Willie Obiano, who is seeking a second term.

Ufodike said stepping down from the race is to allow for the process to present the PDP’s candidate less cumbersome.

He added that the PDP would need to reach a consensus on the Anambra poll before her primary election to avoid rancour.

Ufodike's decision has reduced the number of aspirants from the party to 6.

This follows reports that the APC has shifted its primary scheduled for August 26 to 29 to avoid holding its primaries on the same day with the PDP.

The governorship election is scheduled to hold on November 18.
