Anambra state has recognized all the Biafran heroes who died during the civil war which took place between 1967 and 1970.

The cenotaph has all the names of Biafran heroes who had died during the civil war.

“Without memory, life assumes the attributes of a futile gaze into the void of time,” Obiano said.

“Let’s celebrate the bravery of these great spirits who lost their lives yesterday that we may find peace today,” the governor added.

Meanwhile, shops, schools and businesses were shut in southeast Nigeria on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, 50 years to the day since the declaration of an independent republic of Biafra sparked a brutal civil war.

In Onitsha, the economic hub of Anambra state on the banks of the River Niger, most markets were closed and the streets deserted.
