Maryam Sanda, who is currently facing trial for allegedly stabbing her husband, Bilyamin Bello, to death, has told the Federal High Court in Abuja that she is three months pregnant.

On resumption of her trial on Monday February 5, 2018, Maryam, who is the daughter of Maimuna Aliyu, a former Aso Savings Bank executive, again asked the court to reconsider an earlier application she filed to be released on bail pending the determination of the murder charge against her.

Counsel to the accused, Joseph Daudu, revealed Maryam’s current situation when he pleaded with the court to give his client a soft landing so that she could seek proper medical attention at this early stage of her pregnancy.

Objecting her fresh bail application, the Police through its lawyer, James Idachaba, argued that the accused failed to bring sufficient evidence before the court to prove she was three months pregnant.

Chief Justice Halilu then adjourned the matter till Wednesday to decide whether or not the defendant should be released on bail based on her pregnancy claim.

The FCT Police Command had in December 2017, docked Maryam’s mother, Maimuna Aliyu, her brother, Aliyu Sanda and one other for allegedly helping to conceal evidence on the crime scene.
