Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi could be a hit for Nigeria at next year's World Cup in Russia and with that in mind, Arsenal have reportedly initiated fresh contract talks with the forward.

This new contract comes despite Iwobi only signing a new deal last year.

As reported by The Sun, the Gunners are desperate to agree to a new deal with the Nigerian international before he jets off to the World Cup next summer in Russia.

The 21-year-old will have another three years left on his current deal at the end of the campaign.

However, the club’s top brass are keen to reward the attacker for forcing his way into Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans this season with a bumper new contract.

SunSport understands talks have begun between the club and player’s representatives, but there is still some way to go before a new long-term deal is agreed.

Iwobi signed a five-year deal worth £30,000-a-week in October 2016, but any fresh terms have to reflect his progress made in the last 12 months.
