Akowonjo Shop Owners Cry Out Over Robbery Attacks
John Nwosu who runs a mini mart at Ologunfe Street, Akowonjo, Shasha road, now lives in fear.
He was robbed at gun point by armed robbers who were on a motorcycle on Friday in his store at about 8pm.
Nwosu said the armed robbers shot in the air to scare away residents while they carted away all his earnings for the day.
Nwosu’s plight is what most shop owners in Akowonjo are currently experiencing as they now live in fear of possible robbery attacks.
There have been reports of several attacks in the area with shop owners parting with their daily earnings on several occasions.
Shop owners now close early to avoid being victimized by the robbers.
Adenike, who owns a fashion boutique said that since the robbery attacks, she closes as early as 7pm.
“I used to stay till 10pm in the shop but after the robbery incident I close as early as 7pm. I close at that time because I noticed that most of the robberies take place at nights,” she said.
Another store owner, Kelvin said he was robbed two weeks ago by guys on a motorcycle who carted away N30,000.
The shop owners who spoke to Bounce News said the matter has been reported to the Afoka police station.
“We have reported the matter to both the Landlord’s Association and the police, but no serious arrangement has been put in place to stop them.
“We are appealing to the relevant authorities to come to our aid as our lives and goods are no longer safe."
