Rangers International F.C got off to winning start in the group phase of the AITEO Cup on Monday as they beat El-Kanemi Warriors 2-1 inside Sani Abacha stadium, Kano.

The victory was hard-earned for the Flying Antelopes as they met a brick wall in El-Kanemi now handled by their erstwhile manager, Imama Amapakabo.

Reacting after the encounter, the Rangers coach, Ogunbote said he was happy that his team overcame El-Kanemi; adding that the noticeable lapses will be corrected.

“We should be glad getting the result especially against El-Kanemi. There are so many scenarios surrounding the game. They are  not a pushover team.

"It was not an easy game but we thank God for the victory. It was quite challenging playing against a former coach of Rangers but we just played our game and got the result we wanted and we shall continue to work on noticed lapses in other matches.” Coach Ogunbote stated.

On his part, the match winner, Kelvin Itoya said he is over the moon after helping his team to victory.

He said: “I feel elated scoring the winning goal but it was a team effort and we are well motivated to go all out and get the needed result. We have no excuse than to get the three points and that is what we got. It can only be the work of God.

"I came in and scored against them in a league match in Enugu and today, I came in and got the winning goal, To God be all the glory.”

In the earlier match between Supreme Court and Sunshine Stars, it ended goalless.

Rangers next play Supreme Court at the Kano Pillars stadium, Sabon-Gari, Kano on Wednesday, September 26, 2018.
