After 3-Month Heat, Mimiko Set To Dump Labour Party
Former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko is again on his way out of Labour Party after three months of controversial re-entry into the party.
Notwithstanding the recent declaration of his intention to vie for the 2019 presidential election, Mimiko seems to have been suffocated already by the heat generated from his arrival into the party.
The return of the former governor in June, was said to have plunged the party into unmanageable crisis and tore it's leadership into irreconcilable factions.
According to his media aide, Eni Akinsola, Mimiko is leaving Labour Party to actualise his presidential ambition in a relatively new party known as the Zenith Labour Party.
"Dr. Olusegun Mimiko is bothered by the subtle hijack of Labour Party by the ruling party hence, there is need for him to move on if he must realise his presidential ambition in the next general election," he stated.
However, a political associate of the former governor, who spoke to our correspondent in confidence, pointed out that Mimiko was only using the avenue to negotiate his political future with other political parties that were already established in the consciousness of Nigerians.
"To some of us who know Dr. Mimiko very well, we know what he is driving at the very first day he decided to return to Labour Party.
"We already knew he would have problem but what we didn't know was whether he could manage the crisis with the party leaders or not.
"Had it been he had his way with Labour Party, he would have sold it to other big party like he did in 2011 in favour of former president Goodluck Jonathan.
"Zenith Labour Party or Guarantee Labour Party, what Mimiko is after is his own interest. He is not contesting any election but only seeking a platform to negotiate his political future," he affirmed.
Mimiko, according to a reliable source, is said to have concluded plans to formally defect to the new party before next weekend.
