Afrobasket 2017: D’Tigers Fired Up As Title Defense Begins
After weeks of preparations, the stage is now set for the Nigeria men's senior basketball team, D'Tigers to begin their Africa title defense at the 2017 Afrobasket championships.
Updates served Bounce Sports by the Media officer of D’Tigers, Suleiman Saleh indicates that the Nigerian men are fired and rearing to go as they eye the best possible start to their title defense.
It is understood that the Vice President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Babs Ogunade who is the leader of the delegation, welcomed the players and advised them to focus on the game at hand.
He also assured them that all issues concerning players clearance and allowances have been sorted out.
On his part, the president FIBA zone 3, Colonel Samuel Ahmedu has advised both players and officials to bear with the new board as it is only about two months old. He also asked the players to work hard in order to defend the title.
He said: "I have looked at all the teams that are here, I have not seen any team which is balanced as we are because we have players that have been to Olympics, FIBA Afrobasket with us, which is a plus.
The Head Coach of the team, Alex Nwora also gave reassuring words that D’Tigers will deliver as they get started against their Ivorian counterparts on Friday:
"We got ourselves here in a good condition and we gonna do what we can, Nigeria should expect good results “he said.
After the game against the Ivorians, D’Tigers will have other dates against Mali and Congo.
