Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu says the absence of captain John Obi Mikel will not have any negative effect on the outcome of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Seychelles.

The city of Victoria will host the tie between the two countries on Saturday beginning at 1pm Nigerian time.

Mikel was left out of the squad by coach Gernot Rohr due to injury.

Ogu says the Tianjin Teda midfielder will be missed but added that the team will aim to claim all three points in his absence.

“It’s a huge blow if the captain (Mikel) of the team isn’t available for such a crucial match, but we have players capable of filling the void,” the 30-year-old told reporters in the team’s Savoy Hotel Resort and Spa in Victoria.

“We lost our first game so it’s imperative to win on Saturday to brighten our chances.”

“We are looking forward to the match as our opponents are relatively unknown. The fear of the unknown is what will motivate us to victory.” The Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder said.

If Ogu plays on Saturday, it will be his 20th appearance for the Super Eagles after making his debut in 2013.
