The national football team of any country is a classic case of 'soldier come soldier go'.

Inasmuch as one can see particular players playing up to a decade in the national colours, like they say whatever has a start also has an end date.

For the Super Eagles, some new breed have been invited to somewhat take over from the ageing players in the national team.

While the next game for the Super Eagles is virtually a must-win encounter, Coach Gernot Rohr is high on confidence that his newly-invited players have what it takes to move Nigeria forward not just in the AFCON qualifying series but generally.

Speaking in Lagos recently, the Franco-German tactician explained what informed his choices.

He said: “With Shehu Abdullahi and Tyronne Ebuehi injured, we have the chance to invite some new players. There is a new left-back in the team, Jamilu Collins who plays for SC Paderborn in Germany . The boy is from Kaduna. He played in Slovenia before moving to Germany. We have monitored him very closely and he is a good defender.

“Elderson Echiejile who is one of our left-backs is not active for now so we need a new player in that position.

“Then, Semi Ajayi, a tall defender who fits into the quality of defenders we are looking for.

“Samuel Kalu just joined Bordeaux from Gent in Belgium. He is a good winger who may get to start against Seychelles because Victor Moses has retired and because Moses Simon is injured.

“We also have Kelechi Nwakali who is on loan at Porto from Arsenal.”

The Super Eagles in Victoria on September 7 will face Seychelles in one of the Matchday 2 game of the AFCON qualifying series.
