AFCON Q: Ghana Recalls Gyan, Snubs Ayew Brothers
Ghana has recalled it’s record goal scorer Asamoah Gyan to their squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone.
Brothers Andre and Jordan Ayew were omitted in a 23-man squad released by Ghana boss Kwesi Appiah for the mid-October games.
Gyan, 32, is among four attackers listed for the fixtures despite having played just 35 minutes for his Kayserispor club this season.
Andre Ayew has started life well at Turkish side Fernabahce, with two goals from seven games, while Jordan Ayew has become more involved for Crystal Palace in recent weeks, but Appiah did not explain the reason for their snub.
It could be recalled that in 2017, both players opted out of a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Congo, and have not returned to the team ever since.
Ghana sits top of Group F on goal difference and would be seeking to bounce back from defeat in Kenya when they face Sierra Leone on October 11 in Kumasi, and on 15 October in Freetown.
