Adamawa Speaker Beats Up Police Sergeant
In most countries, it is a serious crime to attack a policeman but the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Kabiru Mijinyawa, does not seem bothered about this.
The politician was said to have become angry when a police sergeant attached to him complained about non-payment of his allowances.
A witness told newsmen in Yola on Thursday that the speaker grabbed the policeman and gave him several resounding slaps on the face until the man was rescued by other security men around.
“The dazed sergeant was rescued by a civil defence man who had to remind the speaker that he was beating up a policeman,” the witness said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Othman Abubakar, who confirmed the development, said the commander in charge of Yola Area Command was handling the matter.
“The case has been reported and we are handling it. We will let the pres know the outcome of our investigation,” Abubakar told Daily Post.
It is not yet known if the Nigerian Police or the victim would be pressing charges.
