The Abia State government is set to launch a N15 billion security fund.

The move is part of its efforts to enhance the present security situation in the state.

Additionally, the initiative seeks to improve swift response to distress calls by providing the necessary infrastructure.

Money from the security fund would be used to procure logistics, including high-tech security equipments, vehicles, welfare of the security personnel, among other things.

As a prelude to the official launch of the Fund on Wednesday, a six-member committee, comprising of Army, Directorate of State Services, DSS, Police, Security Adviser, under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Ukpai Agwu Ukpai, revealed that they have been working to realize government’s aim.

Briefing journalists on Wednesday in Umuahia, Ukpai explained that the Security Fund launch was in line with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s determined effort to provide maximum security for the state.

Ukpai said that the governor realized the need for good security to be available for businesses to thrive in the state, hence the need for the fund to strengthen the security of the state.

According to him, the fund will be used to re-strategize and strengthen the security architecture of the State with a view to making it stronger to ensure that every Abian sleeps with his/her eyes well closed.

Ukpai called on all Abia people, including corporate bodies, to contribute to the funds no matter how small, saying that the provision of security is everybody’s business.
