Mr Thomas Arnold Pearce and Mr Hendrik Gideon Smith, the two white South African men kidnapped in Maidaro village at a mining site on Tuesday January 23 have been rescued.

They were rescued on Saturday after their abductors had taken them to Birnin Gwari forest Kaduna state.

Their rescue came because of intense pressure mounted on the kidnappers by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), police airwing helicopter patrol and Kaduna state command police.

Victims were moved from Kaduna to Abuja on Saturday morning and after debriefing in IRT office Abuja, they were handed over to the South African embassy and their company representative at 7am for medicals and other immediate needs.

Victims are in good health condition and they have given useful information to the police that will help in the investigation.

The police say some suspects have been arrested and serious efforts to arrest remaining gang members are in progress.
