9 Men Docked Over Alleged Cult Membership
Nine men are facing a three-count charge of criminal intimidation, disturbance of public peace and public nuisance before a Grade 1 Area Court, Kubwa in Abuja.
The Prosecutor, John Okpa, told the court that the defendants belonged to two different cult groups.
Okpa said that the defendants were armed with axes and other dangerous weapons when they engaged in a fight.
He said the defendants clashed at a public place in Chikakori area of Abuja, thereby undermining the security of residents and causing panic.
According to him, the defendants also put residents of the area in a state of fear.
The accused are Joel Oluwatobi, Rotimi Suleiman, Onyeka Okonkwo and Isaiah John.
Others are Omoh John, Victor Chindo, Emmanuel Nebo, Godwin Chukwu and Tunde Jimoh.
They all pleaded not guilty and the Judge, Mohammed Marafa, granted them bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety each in like sum.
Marafa said that the sureties must be public servants.
He adjourned the case until October 11 for hearing.
