8 Years Later, Former Lagos Deputy Speaker Forfeits Illegally Acquired Property
A former Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Funmilayo Tejuosho, has forfeited two wings of a 5-bedroom semi-detached house located at 3A Sasegbon Street, Ikeja GRA.
Tejuosho, a serving four-term lawmaker, finally forfeited the property on Monday after the incumbent Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni formally took over the building, which was allocated to him in 2015 as his official residence.
The said property was assigned to Tejuosho during her tenure as the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
However, after she was impeached in 2009 as the Deputy Speaker, Tejuosho remained in the apartment, thereby denying successive deputy speakers from occupying their official residence.
Speaking while receiving the keys of the building, Eshilokun-Sanni recalled how the process started just before his emergence as Deputy Speaker on June 8, 2015, saying it was relieving that the House had put an end to the issue.
However, many political watchers in the state believe Tejuosho is being punished because of her closeness to the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Muiz Banire.
Tejuosho and Banire are from the same state constituency, Mushin 1.
Banire has been having a running battle with the Lagos state chapter of APC.
Party loyalists who hitherto were allies of Banire, it was learnt, are beginning to ditch him for fear of being tagged saboteurs.
