Several families have again been thrown into mourning again in Plateau State after armed bandits attacked communities. 

At least 8 persons were killed in the Tuesday attacks on Abonong and Zayit villages of Foron District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Several houses were also torched by the gunmen.

The spokesman for the Plateau Police Command, Mr Tyopev Mathias, said the attack also left three others injured.

According to a statement by Mr Mathias, cattle were also rustled.

“The communities were attacked by gunmen on Tuesday which resulted in the death of the 8 persons, with 95 houses burnt and 310 cattle rustled by the assailants,” the statement read.

Reports also said the gunmen vandalised houses in the communities, carted away foodstuff, before burning the houses.

Police said the bandits ran out of the communities on sighting a team of police officers who arrived in the communities after a distress call.

The attack came days after a former Governor of the State, Jonah Jang declared his interest to run for President in 2019 general elections. 

He had promised that security of lives and property would be ensured if given an opportunity to lead Nigeria.
