The new year is barely four days old and the number of deaths recorded are increasing daily.

Six persons have died and 14 others were injured in an auto crash along Sokoto-Jega road in Sokoto State.

Sani Hamzat, the Sokoto State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) said the crash occurred on Wednesday.

He said all the victims were in a commercial truck conveying goods and passengers when the driver lost control and ran into a ditch.

Hamzat said all the victims were evacuated to hospital by road marshals.

Meanwhile, another accident involving two cars has claimed the life of one person on Sokoto-Gusau road.

The sector commander attributed the crashes to disregard for road use regulations and urged motorists to respect traffic rules.

Hamzat advised motorists to always ensure that their vehicles, screens and tyres are in perfect condition before hitting the highway.
