A 50-year-old man Samuel Otega was on Thursday arraigned in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged arson.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on one count charge of unlawful arson.

The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 29, at Government Model Girls School, Isan-Ekiti.

Okunade alleged that the defendant unlawfully set ablaze the generator house of the school.

He said the offence contravened Section 443(a) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor therefore prayed the Court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble witnesses.

Otega’s counsel, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde, urged the Court to grant his client bail and promised that he would not violate the terms.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Adegboye then adjourned the case until Feb. 15 for hearing.
