A little boy was burnt to death in a horrific fire incident after a man allegedly set fire to a hut where the child lay.

Oryiman Angboor, 5 was burnt to death after Vihishima Iorshase, 31 set ablaze his parents’ round thatched house in  Gyaluwa village, Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State

Iorshase was said to have quarrelled with the victim’s parents over a farmland.

It was gathered that after destroying some crops on the disputed land, Iorshase went ahead to set the building on the land ablaze.

Angboor, who was inside the building sleeping when the incident happened, was burnt to death.

The accused was later arrested and during the police investigation, he voluntarily confessed to the crime.

He was subsequently charged to court for culpable homicide. The accused is also facing charges of mischief by force with intent to cause damage and destruction.

Police prosecutor, Omaye Ujat told a Makurdi Upper Area Court  that the offences contravened Sections 329, 337, 338 and 222 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State 2004.

He told the court that the case was first handled by Naka Police Division, before it was transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department on April 26.

The prosecutor, however, pleaded with the court for more time to enable the police complete investigation into the matter.

The plea of the accused was not taken for want of jurisdiction, but the magistrate ordered Iorshase to be remanded in Makurdi Prisons.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Mohammed, adjourned the case till June 7, for further mention.
