5 Things You May Not Know About Yusuf Buhari
Before the drag-racing motorbike accident involving the son of the President occured in Abuja, little was known of him.
He had managed to stay away from the public sphere or so it seemed.
Prior to the accident, he was a trending topic in May, 2015, when he was identified to the general public for the first time in a photo with his father.
At the time Buhari was President-elect and the photo was dated a day before his swearing-in ceremony.
Until two years ago a majority of Nigerians never knew of, let alone had ever heard of, Yusuf unlike Donald Trump Jr.
Here are a few things you need to know about him:
1) Only Son
He is the only son of President Muhammadu Buhari with his second (and current) wife Aisha.
Yusuf is also the only male of the President’s surviving eight children. The President’s only other son from his first – and now late – wife Safinatu (who bore him five children), Musa, is deceased.
Yusuf in 2016 graduated, along his sister Zahra, from the University of Surrey in the U.K.
3) No Military Training
The President once commented that he “stopped him from joining the army”.
Yusuf, who is rarely in the public eye, except for the occasional family picture and rare sightings with his father, unlike Baba has no military training.
4) Daddy's Boy
He shares a close bond with his father, hanging out with him on the farm, even accompanying him on his first official trip to the U.S following his inauguration in 2015.
5) Low Profile
He keeps a low profile on social media, with his twitter handle @YusufBuhari_ rarely seeing much activity (just 116 tweets).
His most recent tweet was on 10 Feb, 2016, where he posted a short patriotic message and photo: “For the love of our country and the future generation. #IStandWithBuhari”
