5 Killed As 2 Explosions Rattle Maiduguri Again
At least five people were killed while six persons were wounded when multiple blasts rocked Maiduguri on Tuesday.
The first explosion occurred at about 8.30am followed by another at about 8.45am.
Four female bombers stormed Kaleri area, an outskirt of Maiduguri in Mafa local government area with IEDs wrapped around bodies that exploded, killing at least one farmer and injuring 6 others.
Ba' Kura Muhammad said the first bombers attacked local farmers on their farmland.
"At about 8:23am there was loud sound in our area so we were confused, some minutes later a second occurred near military sand bags injuring a JTF member.
"At least five were killed including one civilian killed and 7 farmers were taken to the hospital" said Muhammad.
The EOD unit of the Borno police detonated a suicide vest removed from one of the bombers.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Victor Isuku, confirmed the incident.
Isuku said that the incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. in Tomsu Ngamdu community on the outskirts of Maiduguri.
He said that one of the suicide bombers detonated her explosive near a military check point, while the other one detonated hers at a Civilian Joint Task Force checkpoint, all killing themselves and injuring six farmers nearby.
He said that the two other bombers were shot dead by security operatives before they detonated the bombs concealed in their bodies.
“Police EOD teams have been deployed to the scene to sanitise the area,” the PPRO said.
The explosions came a week after two suicide bombers were intercepted by security personnel while attempting to enter the city to detonate explosives strapped to their bodies.
