5 Hot Jams That Currently Make Nigerians Just Lose Their Home Training
Nigerian music is unmistakable. It's in the catchy beat that's bound to make you move, and the lyrics that barely make sense but everyone sings along to regardless.
Once upon a time, foreign music ruled our airwaves and dance floors. These days though, any DJ who continuously plays foreign tracks at a party is toying with their balance. Not only have Nigerians fully embraced Nigerian songs, the rest of Africa fully believes in the ministry, while the rest of the world is quickly catching on.
Dance is at the centre of any Nigerian jam. To really blow in Nigeria, your song has to get people moving, it's why artistes like Olamide have taken things a step further by introducing dance styles.
But there's levels to this thing. While some songs have managed to get us moving, others have got us jumping out of chairs like children without home training.
Here are 5 hot jams currently rocking the airwaves that just bring out the inner wild child in us.
1. 'Penalty' - Small Doctor
Despite the fact that this track was released nearly a year ago, it's still got a hold on us all. The moment it comes on anywhere, it's complete bedlam. Since it's release in 2017, it's been driving Nigerians completely crazy and it's not hard to see why. It's beat is incredibly catchy accompanied by lyrics in Pidgin, Yoruba and utter gibberish that say absolutely nothing - certified club banger.
2. 'Wo' - Olamide
Olamide has been depriving Nigerians of their home training with his songs since he came onto the music scene. From 'Bobo' to 'Wo', the Bariga born act has got us all dancing without a care in the world. But with 'Wo', he took things a step further as he introduced the 'Shaku Shaku' dance that currently has social media in a frenzy.
3. 'Yeba' - Kiss Daniel
Kiss Daniel is another artiste who's consistently had us grooving with his tracks, and 'Yeba' is no different. Once the distinct intro comes on, then you know the party just got started, and some people are about to forget the ethics that guide behaviour in a public environment.
4. 'Fia' - Davido
Davido had a great 2017, and 'Fia' was the final jewel in his crown. The track also accompanied one of the most unforgettable moments from 2017 - Wizkid and Davido on stage together. Though not as fast-paced as the other tracks on our list, 'Fia' manages to get people screaming once it comes on, because 'sukura kilo ko si o, suku shaker, I am shoe maker'.
5. 'Science Student' - Olamide
The only entry from 2018 and current street anthem, Olamide once again proven that he's Lord of the streets with 'Science Student. The song has got everyone learning the Shaku Shaku dance which has proven to be trickiest of all the dances yet.
