5 Biggest Big Brother Naija Housemates Of All Time
It does not matter who wins, what matters is how you make the best of the platform.
You must have heard this exact statement or various variants of it so many times that it has become a cliché when a big reality show is about to start.
Everyone knows and understands that fact but let’s not deceive ourselves, not everyone can make success of their appearance on a reality show.
Big Brother Naija Season 3 is upon us and we are excited.
In readiness for the many days we get to live our lives by watching other adults live theirs, we take a look at some of the biggest personalities to emerge from the show.
This is about how well they have "used" the platform to excel.
Efe makes this list because he won season 2 of the show in 2017 and became 25 million Naira richer.
While questioning his existence on this list, please try to also name one person who has won the reality show with almost 60% of all votes cast.
He has since launched a music career and has decided to grow his fame organically like a normal upcoming artiste that he is.
Somehow, he seems to have lost the X-factor that made him win in 2017 but he keeps working hard.
One thing we also must admire is his decision to invest the cash he won wisely on his music career and other unknown ventures, rather than go on a shopping spree or club tour.
Whether he chose the right career is another story and how well he would do after the show is what no man can tell.
But any young Nigerian who gets 25-million-naira cash to jump-start his life must know that he is a big winner, if he is wise.
However, some of us think Efe should also embrace Nollywood now before the #BBNaija hype dies off.
We can tell easily that he will make a good actor.
4. Katung Aduwak
Katung beat 13 other contestants to win the $100,000 prize money of Season 1 in 2006.
Before the show, he was building a modest career as a scriptwriter and production assistant in film and television.
With enough cash to build his life, he went to New York to get a directorial degree from the Digital Film Academy and has since returned to Nigeria to work on several projects.
He produced and directed the movies Unwanted Guest and Heaven’s Hell as well as directed many music videos and starred in EbonyLife TV’s Desperate Housewives.
Katung is not one of the famous reality show stars but when you are Senior Channel Manager at MTV Base and Executive Director at Chocolate City, you have done well for yourself.
It was nice to see him featured in the TV commercial for current #BBnaija sponsor, Payporte.
3. Gideon Okeke
This dude has warmed himself into so many hearts as an actor, such that most people do not even remember Big Brother Nigeria Season 1 of 2006 was his claim to fame.
He might not have won it, but he used the platform to sell himself as that hunk who could make a great model and actor.
His acting was initially criticized, trust the media. Perhaps if Gideon had started his acting career during this social media era, bad people would have killed his joy.
He was consistent and before we knew what was happening, he landed one of the biggest jobs on Nigeran television – a role in the Mnet series, Tinsel.
His character, Philip Ade-Williams has been one of the most prominent for many seasons and he has featured in Steve Gukas' 93 Days, A Place in the Stars, When Love Happens, Gidi Blues among others.
This is one guy Efe can learn a lot from, particularly in identifying his strength and staying consistent.
2. Bisola Aiyeola
You could tell from the very beginning that even though they were housemates in BBNaija Season 2, Bisola Aiyeola was not their mate.
Perhaps her experience in the entertainment industry gave her the edge but without that, she was obviously by miles the most talented of the group.
She stood out from day one and those of us who saw her shine on the 2008 edition of music reality show, Project Fame knew she was not going to blow this second chance at fame.
She came second to Efe, but everyone, including even Efe’s fans, knew she was the real winner of #BBNaija Season 2.
She already had a career to promote, she sold her other hidden talents like speaking and comedy and sold her face too.
One of her rewards for this was attending the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York as a ONE ambassador where she spoke on issues of girl child education.
She is doing quite well in Nollywood, she has her radio show on WFM 91.7 where her humour is killing it and she just shot a beautiful advert for DSTV.
Not to mention that she's signed onto one of the most prestigious talent management companies, The Temple Management Company which launched a record label in partnership with Jay-Z's Roc Nation.
With all of this in place, Bisola is poised to be a real triple threat with her prowess in music, acting and comedy.
The best part of this is that fans continue to beg for more of Bisola.
1. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu
The biggest winner of Big Brother Nigeria ever, Season 1 and 2 combined, is Ebuka. It’s that simple.
He was the favourite male housemate in Season One whose eviction was painful and highly protested.
Ebuka sold his intelligence as a young lawyer throughout the show and made it obvious he had what it took to make a great career.
He has since gone on to be one of the most popular and consistent men on Nigerian TV with his composed anchoring of Rubbin’ Minds on Channels Television and as co-host of The Spot on Ebony Life TV.
With this he has won many awards and left no one in doubt that he is not just about his handsome face and fine body.
He has hosted some of the biggest high-profile events in Nigeria and above all Multichoice has retained him as the host of Season 3 of the show.
Did anyone notice he stole the show as host during #BBNaija Season 2? Some of us were not surprised when he did it again during Banky W and Adesua’s wedding.
Twelve years after his Big Brother Nigeria debut, Ebuka is undoubtedly one of the most influential young Nigerians today.
Little wonder, the Nigerian Government listed him among Top 100 Young Nigerians during Nigeria’s centenary celebration in 2014
This dude was born for the spotlight.
