The game is up for 28 suspected oil thieves as they were arrested in a major mop up operation in Rivers State.

The Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship - Pathfinder - Commodore Sam Bura presented 23 suspects to newsmen in Eagle Island, near Port Harcourt.

According to him, five other suspects were arrested while attempting to revive an already destroyed illegal refinery in Ogu/Bulo Local Government Area of Rivers.

The current efforts to clamp down on illegal refineries is not unconnected with the Federal Government move to establish modular refineries in the oil rich region.

Bura said that 23 crew members on board a vessel, MT Preye I, were caught in the act of loading petroleum products suspected to be illegally refined diesel from five large wooden boats.

He said that the suspects carried out the illegal activity in the late hours of Saturday night.
