24-Year Old In Police Net For Stealing 10 Naira In Church
Ojo Fredrick was caught red handed by a woman in the church after stealing N10 from the woman's handbag.
The suspect was sitting close to her, and when she left to give her church offering, he dipped his hands into the woman's handbag.
The 24-year-old Ojo Fredrick who hails from Benue State has since been nabbed by the Ebonyi State Police Command for allegedly stealing N10 in the Church (name withheld)
The suspect was arrested on Sunday in one of the orthodox churches along the popular Onwe Road, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
Bounce News learnt that Fredrick Ojo came into the church and sat down amidst other members and when a woman sitting close to him left her seat to give her offering, he immediately took her purse, ransacked it and collected N10 which was the only money left in there.
But luck ran out on him as he was spotted by the woman who rushed and questioned him as to why he should put his hands into her bag only to see Fredrick with her only N10.00.
The church wardens quickly took the boy down to the security department where he was interrogated. It was at this point that a distress call was made to the police and he was arrested.
However, the church authority later went to the police and pleaded for the boy’s release, saying he has been forgiven, but expressed shock that a 24-year old man could travel from Benue to steal N10.00 from the church.
When contacted, Ebonyi State Command Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Loveth Odah confirmed that the suspect is in custody.
Odah said since the arrest of the suspect, no member had come from the church to make a statement on the alleged theft, including the woman whose N10 was stolen.
ASP Odah confirmed that the church wants the suspect released but she explained that in law, stealing remains stealing, that the church’s appeal is a compounding felony.
According to her, shielding a suspected criminal is an offence.
The spokesperson called on the church to come to the police so that their statement could be taken for the suspect to be arraigned.
