2019: What Atiku-Obi Ticket Means To Saraki, Dogara & 9th Assembly
The political scene of 2019 is taking shape more and more, as the general election commencement's clock ticks.
It is just 125 days to the time Nigerians will make their choices.
A few things are certain though and top in this list is the certainty of who the candidates of some political parties are.
On Friday, the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Atiku Abubakar, announced his running mate.
Peter Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, is the anointed one and that ticket means a lot to some other persons in position of power in Nigeria.
The PDP is at the moment basking in the corridor of leadership in Nigeria, holding the leadership of the two Chambers of the National Assembly and looking ready to hold that position till the end of the 8th Assembly.
At least reggae songs of impeachment after the two leaders defected from the All Progressives Congress to the PDP have suddenly turned to blues of solidarity.
While the 8th winds down the 9th Assembly is just by the corner and the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, will indeed be feeling the heat.

One thing they must be calculating now is how to hold the position they occupy, which is one of the most difficult things to achieve in Nigeria's politics.
But this Atiku/Obi ticket appears to be shaking the table for the two leaders of the National Assembly.
Going by the principle of Federal Character and what is on paper, the President and the Senate president are meant to come from the same region which means that the emergence of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, will create the possibility of Dr. Saraki retaining his position as the Senate President.
But whether other Senators from the north will throw their support behind a man sometimes referred to as someone from the the middle belt and not core north, remains to be seen.
For Dogara, the chance of retaining the seat as the Speaker has become slim.
Even though things have changed since the time of late president Umaru Yar'Adua, other members of the House of Representatives who want Dogara's seat may dust up the paper Containing the Federal Character principle and look at what it says again, just to be sure.
That decision will surely ensure that an individual from the eastern part of Nigeria may occupy the position.

One thing going for Saraki and Dogara, however, is that both of them have been given the tickets of the PDP to contest in 2019.
They will need to cross the huddle in their states and get to the National Assembly before pushing further any ambition to hold the seats they currently occupy.
