2019: Politicians, Parties Tasked Not To Heat Up Polity
The Director General of the National Orientation Agency Garba Abari has enjoined politicians and political parties in the country to play the game of politics by the rules and avoid the campaign of calumny.
Abari was speaking in Gombe at the flagging off of north-east zonal campaign on voided votes organized by the Agency in Gombe state.
The DG who was represented by Musa Chantu the agency's director Orientation and Behavior Modification (OBM) at the event, said the increasing incidence of voided votes in each election has been of great concern to the agency.
"This is totally unacceptable in the 21st century and especially so that every vote counts in a credible election that is free and fair.
He therefore enjoined electorates across the country to resist any form of ignorance that would render their votes voided, spoiled or invalid.
"It is sad that a citizen who is dully registered with his PVC would spend the whole day to be accredited and cast his vote for his preferred candidate only for his/her ballot paper to be put aside as voided, spoiled or invalid vote and not counted.
"This is indeed the reason why NOA has fully mobilized its staff in the 36 states and the 774 Local Government to carry out mass sensitization campaigns aimed at reducing the incidence of voided votes due to ignorance on the part of the voters on how to vote correctly,” he said.
Also speaking, the Gombe State Acting Director NOA Adaline Waye, said the campaign on voided votes is in continuation of Nigeria Decides 2019 sensitization awareness campaign against vote buying and promoting peaceful election by the agency nationwide.
Representative of the Police, INEC commended NOA for initiating the campaign and also enjoined politicians to play the game according to the book.
The former NOA Gombe State Director Mr. Ado Solomon who delivers the keynote at the flagging off ceremony said there is every need for registered voters to go collect their PVCs and make sure that their vote count.
