Due to the coming 2019 election, some politicians have started searching for PVCs to buy in order to gain an upper hand at the polls.

How they intend to make the purchased cards work for them is better explained by the Oyo State Resident Electoral Commission (REC) Barrister Mutiu Agboke, who made the claim.

Agboke was addressing the online media practitioners Oyo State Chapter on Thursday, December 27 at a lecture tagged 'Online Journalism And Media Integrity in Nigeria'.

Although he would not disclose those involved, he said that he got a special report about some persons searching for PVCs to buy and this will enable them have an upper hand in the coming elections.

"Some people are searching for PVCs to buy, this is the report I got from my source. I do tell politicians, instead of buying PVCs, tell me where your people who don't have voters card are and I will mobilize my men and we will come and distribute it to them wherever they are.

"We can't give any politician any PVC to distribute on our behalf," he said

While speaking, the REC encouraged everyone to come and get their voters card as it is available for pickup in their office.

"I urge everyone who is yet to get his/her voters card to please come and collect it. The cards are ready for pickup.

"The total number of registered voters in Oyo State is 2,945,720 and 248,064 PVCs have been given out, 103,737 PVCs for those who relocated to Oyo State and those who changed their local Government Area, and 914,208 have not been collected."

He also encouraged the media to be accurate in their reportage and not mislead the public.
