2019: PDP Considers Change Of Name Before Elections
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may have decided to change its name ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Since the 2015 election, which saw the party’s ouster at the federal level and some states, the PDP has lost many elections.
With the most recent being the Ekiti governorship election, PDP lost executive seats in Edo, Ondo as well as a number of legislative re-run polls across the county.
However, in a bid to go into the next year’s battle stronger, the opposition party may have agreed to re-brand.
Some chieftains and members favourably disposed to the idea believe the current brand has been damaged beyond repair.
They are also worried that the All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to rubbish the PDP's name and logo at every opportunity.
They believe the fortunes of the party are likely to improve during the next general elections if the party adopts a new name.
It was gathered that the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu is heading a committee for the project.
Findings revealed that the committee would among other things recommend a few options and see which one sticks.
