The Enugu State chapter of the APC has boasted that it would stop the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, from enjoying a fifth term in 2019.

Ekweremadu, who represents Enugu West Senatorial zone, is serving his fourth term in the upper legislative chamber.

There are strong indications that Ekweremadu is planning to return to the Senate for a fifth term in 2019.

Addressing journalists after his endorsement for a second term as Enugu State APC chairman in Enugu East Local Government Area, the chairman of the party in the state, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said Ekweremadu would not be allowed to return.

According to Nwoye, the Peoples Democratic Party will, for the first time, experience the true meaning of ‘election’ in Enugu State in the next polls.

"The reality on the ground is that this election will be the most fiercely contested in the history of Enugu State because we are on ground.

"We have most of the biggest financiers. We will challenge. And I will bet you that Enugu West senatorial seat (Ekweremadu’s), for sure, will fall into the hands of APC in 2019.”

On his endorsement for a second term as state chairman, Nwoye said he was humbled.

He gave an assurance that he has gained experience in the last four years and promised to strengthen the party.
