A former Governor of Plateau State and the senator representing Plateau North, Jonah Jang, has joined the presidential race on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Jang visited his immediate constituency within the week for consultations, where he informed key stakeholders of his decision to vie for the office of the President.

He said his ambition was borne out of the desire to serve the country if given the opportunity, having consulted widely across the nation.

Jang promised not to disappoint the good people of Plateau State, Middle Belt and Nigeria if elected President, as he would work towards uniting the country.

However, some close allies of the former governor said they were not enthusiastic about his chances.

They said despite attempts to dissuade him proved abortive, as the senator had insisted that his chances were bright.

When contacted, Jang’s Media Consultant, Clinton Garuba, confirmed the senator’s declaration and said the step made his senatorial seat for Plateau North vacant.

Senator Jang is the first aspirant from the Middle belt states to declare for the Presidency

Other candidates that have indicated interest in flying the PDP ticket include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Gov Ibrahim Dakwanbo of Gombe and former governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa.
