2019 Elections: Buhari Wants Entire N242 Billion Approved In 2018
President Buhari had made a U-TURN!
He no longer wants half a cookie. He wants the entire jar since it has been suggested to be a possibility.
Buhari has written another letter to the Senate on Wednesday seeking to get full and not partial sums of the virement proposal in 2018.
The letter, addressed to the Senate President and dated September 19, 2018; seeks to get more than the initial sum requested.
The sum - N252 Billion - is proposed to be spent on funding INEC's materials and operations for the 2019 general elections. A part of the sum will also be allotted to security agencies during the poll.
President Buhari claims there was a "suggestion" by the lawmakers during a committee meeting with the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma that the entire sum could be made available in 2018.
There was a debate within the political sphere in September that the President could take the sum without necessarily getting approval from the lawmakers.
But it appears the aggressive approach was abandoned for negotiation and respect for the rule of law.
