2019: Buhari's Men Deny Freezing Peter Obi’s Bank Accounts
Last Saturday, the PDP claimed that the federal government has frozen the bank accounts of Mr. Peter Obi who is its Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2019 elections.
But the federal government has now debunked the claim, saying it had issued no such orders.
The PDP had claimed in the statement that the bank accounts of Peter Obi, his wife, family members and their businesses had been blocked “by agencies” of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
The allegation is a “fairy tale,” Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman, said on Twitter on Tuesday.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission also denied in a statement that it took any action against Obi.
Garba Shehu also denied that the government did not order a raid on the home of the sons of Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.
Buhari came to power in 2015 vowing to clamp down on corruption. Critics have accused him of using his anti-graft campaign as a pretext to target political opponents.
Meanwhile, it's been more than 3 days since PDP made the claim but Peter Obi has yet to confirm what really happened.
