2019: APC Reportedly Orders Governors To Donate N50M To His Campaign
Crisis is brewing in the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the second term bid of the President.
The crisis is over the 50 million naira levy imposed on the party’s governors to support Buhari’s campaign for the 2019 election.
Buhari has started his campaign with the appointment of Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi as the Director- General of his campaign.
Amaechi was said to have met with the party’s governors on Thursday in Abuja and had requested some contribution from the governors towards a successful campaign.
Reports have it that Amaechi relayed to the governors a decision for each to contribute the sum of fifty million Naira.
With the party’s 24 governors, the campaign team is expected to make N1.2 billion.
That expectation, however, may not be realizable. 13 of the governors have rejected the move.
Those who rejected the move were of the opinion that they would want to hear the request directly from President Buhari.
Two of the governors queried the rationale behind such demands. They say since President Buhari is leading the fight against corruption, it will be nice to hear from him directly so he can tell them from where they should get the amount.
However, three of the APC governors who attended the meeting have already made their contribution.
